Since 2017, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has been funding research projects on the potential uses of digitization in higher education with the funding priority "Digital Higher Education". The aim is to generate generalizable findings and secure knowledge regarding the implementation of digital teaching as well as on conducive infrastructures and suitable forms of organization.

Prognos AG has been evaluating the BMBF's funding activities in the research field "Digital Higher Education" since the end of 2020.

Aim and methodology

The evaluation aims to examine the implementation, achievement of objectives, impacts, and cost-effectiveness of the funding. The methods used include data and document analyses, online surveys, case studies, and a variety of expert discussions with external experts and reviewers. In addition, the framework conditions and the funding environment are recorded using a context analysis.
